my why
My passion for helping people with their health stems from my own gut issues which spanned over a decade. I was “diagnosed” with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in my early 20s and was told there was nothing I could do about it other than avoid the foods that trigger it. I spent many years on restrictive diets because if I didn’t, I would have to endure the bloating and pain. Over the years I experienced skin issues like rosacea, hormonal pimples and keratosis pilaris, recurring throat infections, bloating, a poor immune system, joint pain, candida overgrowth, and chronic fatigue. I was unaware that they were all symptoms of my poor gut health.
I wasn’t until I moved to Toronto in my late 20s that I was exposed to the world of natural healing. I started learning about holistic healing and I became more and more intrigued. I enrolled back into university to complete a Bachelor of Nutritional Science to learn about the human body from the foundation up.
When I was in my third year of university, I got quite sick (a month after having my amalgam fillings removed), so decided to see a nutritionist and a GP. The GP told me I had a parasite and gave me some antibiotics but said I probably couldn’t get rid of it, that my symptoms on the outside had nothing to do with what was happening on the inside, and that other than the parasite nothing was wrong with me. Luckily, I was working with a nutritionist who completed comprehensive testing. She found that along with my parasite, I had SIBO, candida overgrowth, intestinal permeability (leaky gut), and gluten intolerance. I also had elevated mercury levels, most likely tipping over the edge when my fillings were removed.
I made a commitment to my health and today I feel like a different person. But how many people don’t know the root cause of their issues and how to heal? Your body wants to heal. It’s trying to tell you something is wrong through your symptoms. My role is to combine science-backed functional testing with holistic health to get to the root cause, devise a plan, and guide you through the healing process.
